tms320dm8168: DM8168 M# processor Hang issue

Part Number: TMS320DM8168

Hi all,

Recently we observed issue in few of our systems, that the system gets hang due to M3 processor and then the main application reboots the system.

There is no clue for the reason of such a behavior.

Can any body help find the root cause/ solution for the issue.

Regards,

Bhasha

  • Hello,

    Could you provide more details like:
    1.software release;
    2.custom board or EVM?
    3.do you observe this issue on one board or all?
    4.what is running on the board when the issue is observed.
    etc

  • Hello,

    One more point.
    If the same software is running fine on one board and the same software fails on other board, this could be a hardware issue. May be you have overheating on the failing boards. There is a fan for cooling on dm816x EVM.

  • Hi margarita,

    Please refer to following answers to your questions:

    1.software release;
    Bhasha: The SW(application) for the system is also customized based on application.

    Do you mean M3's SW version?

    2.custom board or EVM?
    Bhasha: It is a custom board.

    3.do you observe this issue on one board or all?
    Bhasha: this issue is not observed in all the boards, there are 7 boards which are having the issue out of many.

    4.what is running on the board when the issue is observed.
    Bhasha: It is not fixed about the issue occurrence. It is observed randomly. But based on the poling detail from main application found that the M3 processor gets hang in Analog encoding -decoding , Mouse application etc.

    Is there any case in which only M3 processor gets hang due to Overheating.

    Also the system even gets reboot even when it is placed in an air-conditioned place.

    Please suggest.

  • Hello,

    Is there a hardware differences between the running boards and the boards which fails? Probably this is a hardware issue.

  • Hi Margarita,

    On further exploration of root cause for the above mentioned issue, found that on blowing hot air over the DDR3 part, system(M3) gets hang and sometimes reboot due to break point kept in software for few M3 hang scenarios.

    what could be the reason for such a behavior?

    Is there any method like SW read/write leveling or any timing parameters related to DDR3 interface which can be corrected in the SW to solve the issue?
