Can (through some HW modifications) DM648 EVM encode 25M Pixels images in JPEG?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320DM648

Hello everyone,

I am looking to perform 25M Pixel JPEG encoding (still image) from CMOS sensors. It seems the best fit would be a TMS320DM648 since the JPEG encoder specifies no limit in the input resolution.

I am now looking at the evaluation board but it seems the board can "only" capture HD sizes.

1/ Have I chosen the right DSP for my application?

2/ Can the EVM perform such high resolution JPEG encoding? If not, can I modify some parts in order to enable it? What would I need to change? (DDR2? input decoders?)

3/ What is the expected output bitrate for a DM648 after JPEG encoding? I expect it to change obviously depending on the quality factor chosen, but any data would be of great use (I am wondering what connection I will be needing after; USB, ethernet... ?)

4/ Will I be able to easily interface my CMOS sensors to the EVM board?

Any answers will be of great help and very much appreciated.

Best regards,

Clément
