CCS/TMS320DM6437: About the temprature of TMS320DM6437ZWT

Part Number: TMS320DM6437
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MAX3232

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

hi,

My DM6437ZWT core board, when running NDK program at  full speed(CPU@594MHz,DDR@162MHz), the  temperature of the case surface is  62 ℃。(Ambient temperature is 27 ℃)

Then ,I disassemble the other IC, only keep the power, reset IC,MAX3232 and CPU,use this minimal systems running a led slash program(Use UART BOOT mode download). The temprature of the case surface is 49℃.

Is this normal?

Do I need to add a heat sink for CPU?

Thanks

  • Hi Huihua,

You would need to calculate your junction temperature, from the case temperature. Then if your junction temperature is within the acceptable range ( 0 to 90 degree for commercial grade parts), you will not need a heat sink.

Refer to the below documents/sections for more info regarding temperature and thermal management:

    www.ti.com/.../tms320dm6437.pdf
section 5.2 Recommended Operating Conditions - see Tj and Ta, see notes (6) and (7)
section 5.3 Electrical Characteristics Over Recommended Ranges of Supply Voltage and Operating Temperature (Unless Otherwise Noted) - see note (7)
    section7.1 Thermal Data for ZWT

  • Hi Pavel,

    Thanks for your reply.

The other question for this device:

I find the device nomenclature in the datasheet is:

According to the description of this document, the device name should be one number to show its  "DEVICE SPEED RANGE".

But,my device is  like the following figure:

There are nothing after "ZWT".It 's blank.

Can you tell me what speed range of this IC?

    Thanks.

  • Huihua,

On some of the DM64x parts, the speed range is noted in the upper right corner (like in the below post), but from the picture seems you have a "blank" part.

    e2e.ti.com/.../105389

I found some internal info that "blank" part for TMS320DM6467CCUT devices, means:

    594MHz DSP, 297MHz ARM9

This might be applicable for your device also, but I can not confirm that in 100%.

    Pavel
