OMAP-L138: Proper shift register for connecting SPI of OMAP L138 LCDK to AFE5809 EVM

Part Number: OMAP-L138
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE5809

Dear Friends,

As you might know, OMAP L138 LCDK has only 2 SPI modules, however, for our specific application, we need at least 3 SPI modules. I think a good solution is to use a Shift Register to increase the number of SPI connections to out OMAP L138. Do you think this approach is good? If it's good, then do you have any suggestions on which type and model of Shift Register to use? There are hundreds of them and I have no clue on which one to choose.

More about our project:

We are developing a sonar system.

In our sonar system, the OMAP L138 LCDK is connected to a custom board via an SPI module. This custom board transmits a sonar wave.

The OMAP L138 LCDK is also connected to AFE5809 EVM via 2 SPI modules. The first SPI module is used to initialize and start the AFE5809 and the second SPI is used to receive the data analog-to-digital data from AFE5809 to OMAP L138 LCDK. Using this method we received the echo of our transmitted wave.

Thank you for you time ^^
