OMAP-L138: Lifetime

Part Number: OMAP-L138
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAPL138

Is the OMAP-L138 (ARM+DSP) currently recommended for new designs?

We're starting development and plan for the product to be active for a further 5 years or longer.

Should a NRND be issued, how long will production continue for support of the exiting product?

  • Hello,

    >>Is the OMAP-L138 (ARM+DSP) currently recommended for new designs?

    Absolutely!
OMAPL138 is one of the popular devices offered by Processors, several customers who have long product life cycles are using it.
While it was launched a few years back and is based on ARM9 - it has a good performance, power , price balance, therefore we see new customer interest in it all the time. It is one of the reasons we have added support for it in our latest Processor SDK.

Below is the standard guidelines you will see us providing when we get questions on EOL/Longevity concerns:

Product longevity is important to TI and its customers. We recognize that our products are sold to a wide variety of customers and used in a wide range of applications with
expected production lifetimes often in excess of several years, including industrial, medical, and automotive applications.

We are dedicated to meet customer needs and, as such, we employ strategies such as inventory management and multiple sourcing tactics to address continuity.

Here is an external link to TI's GQC (General Quality Guidelines) that references TI's EOL policy (Section 20):

    Hope this helps.
