TI staff where are you on this one - very silent!!!?? I have asked this question before and am really disappointed at the lack of response and support from TI on this matter. The wiki page I was referred to http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Memory_Vendor_Selection_Guide is out of date as Micron is no longer supporting 152 ball and I am unable (after a month of repeated attempts) to get an answer from Hynix, and Samsung does not appear to support 152 ball (cannot track down part # or data sheet).
TI has touted these devices for industrial and bio-medical applications, yet is unable to provide acceptable support for the required POP memory - this is extremely disappointing and I am DISGUSTED!!! I realize that you are dependent on the memory manufacturers, but surely before you embark on manufacturing and marketing these parts in 152 ball packages, you should negotiate with memory manufacturers and secure some level of commitment from them to support the device, or failing that, purchase bulk stock of memories from them and stock them as a value added item to the OMAP and DM37x parts? I have designed the OMAP3530CBC device in to very high resolution sonar imaging system and did my due diligence confirming long term commitment to this part from both TI and Micron and was assured that both companies would support this device in the long term. Now, less that 2 years later my client is unable to procure POP memory for this device, after having spent a large amount of money developing and prototyping with this part.
As this is high end, high reliability product, I purposely designed with the 0.5mm CBC part as it enable one to achieve higher reliability and better manufacturability than the 0.4mm part.
Now what am I supposed to do - tell my client to spend another 6 months and > $ 100K redesigning the product with another part, or better yet another manufacturer's processor - one that is better committed to supporting product longevity.
Yes you get it, I am TICKED and rightfully so.
Hello Howard,
We understand and apologize for the unpleasant experience you have had thus far. Your points are well taken and we are here to help in any way we can. Please allow me to clarify that although we work closely with memory vendors, we cannot make an guarantees with regards to their product availability. the memory industry moves very quickly and is has operated this way for years therefore our recommendation is for our customers to secure quantities for the lifetime of your systems.
As I stated, we are actively working with the memory manufacturers on this and doing what we can to try to push them to keeping these 152b PoP devices. The wiki page that you referenced shows Micron as supporting the 168b PoP devices that is why we have it on there. It was a shock to us too when Micron announced that they would no longer support that 152b PoP package.
Have you tried working through Smith and Associates for procuring Hynix parts? Hynix is very difficult to deal with directly as they are used to working with the extreamly high volume customers, but I have had several of our customer get parts through their distribution.
TI is commited to supporting these devices long term and we are working every day with the memory companies to try to sway them to be produce product long term, but in the end we are at their mercy to produce the parts that will work with our devices.

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your reply. I have been working with Smith and Associates since my previous post, and am still awaiting a satisfactory response.
