OMAP3530 DSP for a multitrack recorder

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM4204, OMAP3530, DM3730, DM3725, AM3352

Hi:

I want to implement a 16 channel multitrack recorder. I am going to use 4 PCM4204 ADC, as i can combine 2 of them to get 8 channels in one digital TDM format output. So i am looking for a DSP with multiple digital inputs (thats accepts TDM format) to connect with the ADC. I found OMAP3530 as a good option, but i think is too much for my needs. Could you recommend me a DSP for this aplication?

Thanks

P.D: i understand that some parts are only available for high scale producers or something like that... Im NOT a high scale producer, but i dont know how to find out wich parts are available for everybody and wich only for high scale producers. Could u help me with this too?

  • Hi Pablo,

The omap3530 could be used generally for multitrack recorder but I'm not sure whether the omap3530 is cost effective for your needs because it consists of an ARM Cortex-A8 core and a DSP C64x core. Also the choice of processor or DSP depends on the software environment which you prefer to use. For example the omap35x processor's ARM core works under Linux, Windows or Android and the c64x core works under SYS/BIOS.  You can choose a DSP at the link below depending on the performance, power and cost which are suitable for your needs:

  • Thanks for your answer!

Thats exactly the problem, the OMAP35x is too much for my needs. I will have a look to more DSP, but may be i just need a good ARM processor, i dont know... thanks again

  • Hi Pablo,

You must be sure that many of the TI's processors and DSPs can be used for a multitrack recorder but the choice depends on the OS which you prefer to use and also from the price of the processor. I suggest you to look at the DM37xx series which have improved performance then omap35xx. Also as I understand your requirements I suggest you DM3725 which differs from DM3730 that the DM3725 have no 2D/3D Graphics Accelerator but you haven't need from it and it is less expensive.

You can make a comparison of the parameters which are relevant for you by reading the overview and datasheets on the product pages.

If the price of the processor must be minimized you can check the datasheet of the AM3352 whether it would be suitable for your project.
