TMS320C6748: TMS320C6748 follow-on Roadmap

Part Number: TMS320C6748
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138, 66AK2G02

Is there a product road map showing the next generation of single-DSP devices after the TMS320C6748?  If so, when will the next generation devices be available?

  • Hi,

We do not have (and cannot provide) such information.

    Best Regards,

  • Thank-you. I was trying to confirm that I had the latest public info related to the product family.

  • Tom,

TI has a huge portfolio of processors newer than the C6748 and more powerful, too. We may not have a progressive roadmap targeted to your general question, but we do have product comparison tools on TI.com.

We have a line of ARM Cortex-A cores running at 1GHz and above. These are commonly used for Linux-based communication-related applications or primary processors for a larger system of electronics and slave processors. This family is also called Sitara.

In DSPs, we moved to the C66x DSP core which is an incremental step above the C674x and compatible with code written for the C674x. The C667x and C665x DSP family parts have from 1 to 8 DSP cores that run up to 1GHz and above. These are the Keystone I family.

We also have combined the ARM cores and C66x DSP cores in the Keystone II family with a variety of peripherals and mixes of ARM & DSP cores.

To match the audio peripherals and applications of the OMAP-L138 & C6748, TI has a sub-family from the Keystone II family, called 66AK2Gxx. One Preview example you can find on TI.com is the 66AK2G02. There is an EVM for it but final release information is not yet available.

If I were to call something the follow-on device after the C6748, it would be the 66AK2Gxx family of devices.

Please take a look at the various devices, starting from TI.com and click the Products tab. Hopefully, my brief mention of devices above is helpful for showing you the direction you might be most interested.

    Regards,
    RandyP
