TMS320C6748: Peak Current

Part Number: TMS320C6748

Dear all,

My customer is designing supply power for C6748, but there are two questions, could you please help? Thank you!

1). What’s the peak current of 1.8V power supply for USB0_VDDA18, USB1_VDDA18, SATA_VDDR and DDR_DVDD18?

2). What’s the peak current of 1.2V power supply for CVDD, RVDD, RTC_CVDD, PLL0_VDDA , PLL1_VDDA ,SATA_VDD and USB_CVDD?

3). What’s the lowest voltage of logic high for 3.3V I/O?

  • Hi,

    What’s the peak current of 1.8V power supply for USB0_VDDA18, USB1_VDDA18, SATA_VDDR and DDR_DVDD18?

    Have a look at the data manual. Section 5.1 Absolute Maximum Ratings Over Operating Junction Temperature Range (Unless Otherwise Noted) describes the maximum ratings of the 1.8V power supplies.  It is 2V.

    2). What’s the peak current of 1.2V power supply for CVDD, RVDD, RTC_CVDD, PLL0_VDDA , PLL1_VDDA ,SATA_VDD and USB_CVDD?

    Again the same table describes the maximum voltage for the 1.2V power supplies. It is 1.4V.

    NOTE that the above section describes the Absolute maximum ranges of the voltages. The next section in the Data Manual 5.3 Recommended Operating Conditions describes the maximum voltages that are NOT harmful to the SoC.

    CVDD ---> max 1.35V  or 1.32V

    RVDD ---> max 1.35V

    RTC_CVDD, PLL0_VDDA, PLL1_VDDA, SATA_VDDA --> 1.32V

    USB0_VDDA18, USB1_VDDA18, SATA_VDDR, DDR_DVDD18 --> max 1.89V

    These values are what we recommend as maximum voltages on the above rails.

    3). What’s the lowest voltage of logic high for 3.3V I/O?

    See 5.3 Recommended Operating Conditions:
     Voltage Input Low -> VIL -> Low-level input voltage, Dual-voltage I/O, 3.3V ---> 0.8V

    See also NOTE 4 bellow the table: These IO specifications apply to the dual-voltage IOs only and do not apply to DDR2/mDDR or SATA interfaces. DDR2/mDDR IOs are 1.8V IOs and adhere to the JESD79-2A standard.

    Best Regards,

    Yordan

  • Hi Yordan,

    Thank you! But what the customer is the maximum current for all the 1.8V and 1.2V power supply, not the maximum current. My customer is selecting the power now, so he needs to know the current. Do we have any documents about the current?

    Best Regards,
    Hao
  • There is Section 5.5 Electrical Characteristics Over Recommended Ranges of Supply Voltage and Operating Junction Temperature (Unless Otherwise Noted). There you have the following currents specified:
    Input current (1) (dual-voltage LVCMOS I/Os)
    Input current (DDR2/mDDR I/Os)
    High-level output current (1) (dual-voltage LVCMOS I/Os)
    Low-level output current (1) (dual-voltage LVCMOS I/Os)

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi Yordan,

    Maybe I didn't make my questions clear. I will chose 3.3V, 1.8V and 1.2V DCDC to supply the DSP. Here are the questions:
    1. How many amps of the current should the 1.8V DCDC have?
    2. How many amps of the current should the 1.2V DCDC have?

    Best Regards,
    Hao
  • Hi,

    Ok, I see. I don't think there is a power estimation tool for the TMS320C6748 devices.
    You can refer to the C6748 LCDK to see what DCDC are used and how much current they are capable to achieve. I am not aware of other documents for the TMS320C6748 device.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi Yordan,
