CCS/TMS320C6748: Emulator required for development

Part Number: TMS320C6748

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

As per a previous post I have been informed that I will require an emulator to begin development on my TMS302C6748 development kit. If I purchase an emulator, will this be the extent of the hardware required to begin development? I am under a time-constraint and am confined to a budget, so therefore want to make sure that no further purchases will be required after this.

I am looking into using the XDS100V2 JTAG, debug probe. I am currently running version 5, 6, and 7 of CCS on separate machines, when I begin development with my chosen emulator, which of these versions would be compatible with the emulator/development board?

Thanks,

Calum

  • Hi Calum,

The supported emulators for TMS320C6748 device are described here:
    www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware

    XDS110 JTAG Debug Probe
    XDS200 USB Debug Probe
XDS560v2 System Trace USB & Ethernet Debug Probe
XDS560v2 System Trace USB Debug Probe

And yes, they should be compatible with the CCS version you quote.

  • Thank you for your reply,

I am confused about the XDS100V2 and XDS110. The wiki for the TMS302C6748 development kit states that XDS100 can be used, and I have personally decided on the second version (V2). The wiki also states that the XDS110 is not supported with this board, but the TMS320C6748 processor product page states that the XDS110 can be used.

These pieces of information conflict, so I am now even more confused on which probe to use, which will be compatible with my development board?

What is the difference between these probes, is the XDS110 a newer version of the XDS100 or am I wrong?

Also just to clarify, once purchased will an emulator and development kit be all the needed hardware to begin developing on the TMS302C6748?

    Thanks again,

    Calum

  • Hi Calum,

You should use XDS110 or XDS200 as stated in the product pages. See this post for reference:
    e2e.ti.com/.../2336004

Also just to clarify, once purchased will an emulator and development kit be all the needed hardware to begin developing on the TMS302C6748?

Yes, this should be enough. BUT note that this is strongly dependent on what your application will be. For example, for some audio applications you may need to buy microphones which you should connect the the LCDK.

  • Hi Yordan,

Thanks for your reply, I am looking online for places to purchase the XDS110 as this is within my budget. I am unable to find a vendor that currently has any stock (I am UK based), and I require the probe to be delivered much sooner than that is available through the vendors. Would the XDS100 be suitable and supported with the TMS302C6748 development kit, as it is in stock and would arrive on time.

    Thanks again,

    Calum

  • Hi,

You probably can use it. However, let me check with the design team.

  • Hi,

Just checked the TI website. If you click on the link of XDS110:

You can use Buy from TI. There it is listed as available.

If you click on Buy from distributor, you will see:

You can see that on Europe tab, you can order this debug probe from Compel.
