Construct a TMS320C6713 DSK device

Hi,

I am constructing a device which incorporates a TMS320C6713 DSK. The device has buttons ie up,down, enter, back....

Was wondering how and where to connect these input buttons to on the board?

thanks,

Jason

  • Jason,

On the DSK, you will see some long black connectors. Connect the buttons to some of the pins on those connectors.

You will want to find a daughtercard to use for building this. There are companies who sell those to make this connection easier.

The technical documentation that comes with the DSK include the Technical Reference which lists all of the pins on these connectors, and the schematic which shows how those pins are connected to the C6713 device.

  • Since you may have to wait a while if you order those 80-pin connectors to make your own boards, I suggest getting TI's 5-6K Interface Board, which is inexpensive and has a lot of prototyping space, as well as bringing out the important signals to easier-to-find and -to-work-with standard 0.1"-spaced headers.  In effect, for best results you need to construct a "computer peripheral device".  You will need an address decoder and tri-state bus data buffer circuits, using the ARE and OE lines as well as matching an address you choose in, say, CE2 space, to "gate" the attachment of your data register to the bus (in response to a "read" of that address by the DSP).  The data of course is just button-controlled logic levels in some data word format of your choosing.  If this Wiki allows it, I'm attaching a copy of a Word document that shows typical circuitry.  Good luck!
