Hi,

This sort of question might have been asked before on this forum. In that case accept my apology and redirect me to that thread.
I have never worked on DSPs and code composer studio etc.

I have a project running on a GPP (Windows + Visual Studio). The project is completely written in C. Now I want to port my project to a DSP processor. I have the Logic PD Zoom™ OMAP-L138 eXperimenter Kit . I need directions where I should start ? Will I be able to run the same code on my DSP? I know that the interfaces will be different and I will have to use separate DSP libraries for mic in, mic out, uart etc.

Just point me towards helpful documentation that can make my learning curve as short as possible as I have strong time constraints. I have started working on the kit documentation like getting started guide and user guide to start with hello world sort of applications but considering I have a lot to do I need to start looking into advance level documentation that will help me get through

Hi Mohsin,

For LogicPD Zoom OMAPL138 kit, you have to start with the Quick start guide.

For running some test examples, you have to download the BSL examples from the LOGIC PD website.

TI also offers Starterware package which works on OMAPL138 experimenter KIT. Refer to the following TI links.

From what I have seen on the link you shared, it is for the OMAPL138 kit and it explains setting up for linux environment, cross compiling tools, file system and uboot etc all of this in my knowledge is when you are using the ARM processor. but I will only be using the DSP core and will not be working on ARM as my final task is to work only on TMS320C6748 dsp and not on omapl138.

You can download the BSL test code from LogicPD website with your product information/credentials.
TI also provides startware examples to demonstrate all the peripherals of OMAPL138/C6748 (ARM and DSP).

Mohsin,

For training material, you can go to TI.com to find the Training section near the lower right and click on Online Training. From there you an narrow the scope to Embedded Processors - DSP (not the exact wording) and look through the available videos. The C6000 Embedded Workshop is a very good one for you to start with.

also I want to know that my project will also need multi-threading how will I achieve that in my DSP ? I was using the pthread library on my desktop application is there any such library for dsp c6000 family ?

Pthreads ( Posix threads ) are usually for ARM processors using linux. For DSP C6000 family, we have SYSBIOS as an operating system. It is an RTOS. It provides pre-emptive multi threading. To know more about it, try processors.wiki.ti.com/.../TI-RTOS_Workshop

Can I also get an example from ti on how to use TI-RTOS with my code to handle multi tasking. it can be a simple Producer-Consumer problem example. I can build the rest based on that example

Check out the TI-RTOS workshop that Shankari mentioned. It includes labs, and Inter Thread Communication is an entire chapter (e.g. producer consumer model is part of it).
