Interfacing high speed ADC with c6xx processors

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 66AK2L06, ADS54J60, ADC12J4000

Hello,

My ADC sampling rate is >500 MHz. There are so many of them available from TI.

I wanted to know if I can interface a high speed ADC with JESD204B interface with DSP having serial RapidIO. Based on serial data rate description, both are high speed. But their standards seem to be different.

Does DSP have any configuration to support JESD204B? If so, how do I do it?

Can I use an EVM to check this out with another ADC EVM?

Please let me know.

Mallesh

  • Mallesh,

Please let us know the device you are using for this application ?

  • Mallesh,

The 66AK2L06 is the only currently available TI processor that has JESD204B interface pins. This is what you would want to use with your JESD204B-compatible ADC.

Other SERDES interfaces on this and other TI processors may be electrically compatible in terms of LVDS characteristics, but SRIO or PCIe pins cannot be used to connect to a JESD204B device unless the processor specifically multiplexes those pins. You cannot connect the SRIO peripheral to a JESD204B ADC, for example.

There is an EVM for the 66AK2L06 to which you can connect an interface board to evaluate the JESD204B interface.

  • Thanks a lot Randy.

EVM is a bit pricey. I will just try to use an FPGA for now.

  • Hello Randy,

I have checked the FMC interface connections of TSW14J60 EVM(ADS54J60) with 66AK2L06 EVM. I see that the FMC connections(clock and sync) do not line up. Is there any board that need to be used between the two? Please let me know. Please give the link if you think I need to buy a board.

  • Mallesh,

Please refer below link where you can find an attach to interface 66AK2L06 EVM to ADC/DAC EVMs.

  • Hello Senthil,

I had added these details in another post. Sorry for creating a confusion. Sorry this is a long message.

As I can see from the schematics of ADC12J4000 EVM and 66AKL06 EVM, DB0P,DB1P,DB2P,DB3P,SYNCP are connected to JESD0_RX, JESD1_RX,JESD2_RX,JESD3_RX,JESD_SYNCO respectively. All other pins such as NCO_1, NCO_2, OR_T0, OR_T1, SPI bus as explaned in

    www.ti.com/.../tidrek6.pdf

    are not connected.

Please let me know if this is enough. OR_T0 and OR_T1(overange bits), I do not care. I am not sure about NCO bits here.

But, I want to directly connect 66AK2L06 EVM with ADS54J60 EVM. This is a different ADC card from TI.

I see that DB0P,DB1P,DB2P,DB3P data pins from ADS54J60 EVM connect to JESD3_RXP_FMC1, JESD0_RXP_FMC1,JESD2_RXP_FMC1,JESD1_RXP_FMC1. Also SYNCP on ADS54J60 EVM is connected to SOC_JESD_SYNCOUT0_P_FMC1. One thing is that these pins are not aligned, e.g JESD0 is connected to DB1.

Is there a mux to configure the way as required within DSP?

Sysref does not line up. I think it is not required.

    Is this connection enough?

I am not concerned about deterministic latency. So the sysref being not lined up may be fine for me.

ADS54J60 EVM has on board clock circuitry.

Can you confirm that I can connect these two EVM directly and use them?

Has TI connected any TI ADC EVM board directly to 66AK2L06 EVM and checked it? I have gone through many documents, there is always a board in between the two boards. That is the reason for my concern.

It will be great if someone confirms that I can use them by connecting directly. Then I will buy the EVMs.

I will very much appreciate a quick answer. I want to buy EVM today.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hello Senthil,

Can you please give an update regarding my question above?

Also, I could not find the complete documentation for the JESD204B interface on this chip. How to use it, program it etc.

Can you please share an example software which configures this interface?

  • Mallesh,

I am not pretty much familiar on the JESD204B interface. Would you please followup on your other thread where Bhavin would support you.
