Can we use the TMS 320C6711 for digital image processing ,the image being that of an iris or are there any other suggestion??

C6711 seems to be old, so you can look into our C5x and C674x DSP devices.

I hope you would get idea after you read the above docs.

In addition to Titus's suggestion, you can consider using TMS320C6748 DSP for which, TI has released good software packages which includes "Face detect demo". TI has done a low cost LCDK developed for C6748. Please have a look at the following links.
