c6748 h264 encoding quality

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAPL138

Dear friends,

I am using dm6446_h264enc_02_02_00_02_production encoder with c6748.

I need advice on 2 issues:

1. VLC Player does not know the frame rate of the encoded data. What header should be added to the stream so that VLC is able to recognize the frame rate?

2. What are the recommended settings for a fine quality encoding of 640x480 15fps video?

Thanks,

Avi Tal

  • We don`t support any multi-media codecs on this device any more. There is legacy software package called DVSDK that provide DSP optimized H.264 encoders and decoders for OMAPL138 part which is (ARM9 + C6748) device using codec engine interface.

the link to download this SDK is provided below but as I mentioned this is legacy software that you will need to use without any support as there is no active development around mutli-media codec for this device.

You may also find this post innteresting as it refer to the same thing that you are trying on C6748

  • Hi Rahul,

    The codec works in general.

I am trying to get hints on how to improve quality and usability.

I thought it would save me development time and may interest others.

I haven't found any posts relating to quality and adaptations to support standard players.

For example, standard players do not identify the frame rate of the video.

If you are familiar with someone who "enveloped" this codec to create a more "standard" media, this would be helpful and may interest others.

    Thanks allot,

    Avi Tal.
