C6713B FLASH eternal EDMA loop boot problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6713B

Dear forum,

A product containing a TMS320C6713B has now been working in multiple instances for years.

The product supports remote upgrade and boots from a multi-page 16-bit FLASH.

A problem appeared on two boards as the DSP didn't seem to boot.

It proved that when leaving the reset state, the nCE1 started an endless stream of accesses with ca. 277us intervals.
No pause in the accesses was seen after 1K with EDMA.

We inspected all boot-mode selecting hardware, but found no errors.

Using the emulator, we inspected the FLASH and found that the content was garbled.

When a correct code was placed in FLASH, the DSP booted without problems.
The DSP then operated the nCE1 in a ca. 4-500ms burst before the CPU took over and started.
Hence, problem solved. Plausible reason: software error.

But a question about the DSP hardware behaviour remains to be answered:

Is there any thing (e.g. FLASH content) that can make the autonomous 1K EDMA boot  process go astray before the CPU is started?

Best regards
Terje Froysa
