TMS320C6701: GigE Camera Interfacing

Part Number: TMS320C6701

Is it possible to interface a camera with Gig E interface to TMS320c6701?

  • Hi,

This should be possible, but TI does NOT provide sw for getting this to work. You will have to write a custom software to process the data (NOTE that there will be limited support, as this is not included in the Processor SDK RTOS examples).

  • Hi,

Do you mean this device www.ti.com/.../tms320c6701.pdf ? This is a 20-year old device and I didn't see it has Ethernet port. Can you clarify?

    Regards, Eric
  • It doesn't have an ethernet port.  But my requirementis to interface a camera that has GigE interface to this processor. I know it isnt directly possibly, hence was looking for some frame grabber boards if TI supplies.

  • Hi Sangeetha
This device came in to existence much before the GigE vision standards were defined. We do not have any software or hardware available to support this on c6701.
Is there a specific reason why you want to use c6701.

I have seen the question on GigE vision camera support come up in context of our newer/latest ARM+DSP devices e.g. AM572x family.
Please see my response on a similar query on that

    e2e.ti.com/.../567857

While my response on the post still says there is no hardwares/software support yet even for AM572x for GigE vision - I think the newer family of devices will likely be more suitable - even if you needed to start development on your own.

    Hope this helps some
  • 320c6701 is the only space qualified processor from TI. Hence we have to restrict our usage to this .

What about RS232/ IEEE 1394 ( firewire) interfacing? The camera seems to support that even.

  • Hi Sangeetha
Thanks for clarifying that it is for space programs. You are right there are limited options for DSPs that are recommended for space programs as listed on
    www.ti.com/hirel

We do not have any specific hardware or software offerings to support your requirements.

It is likely that you would need to implement something using the EMIF port on c6701 talking to an FPGA , and that FPGA would be able to offer things like gigE or 1394 options.

For e.g. see the following old docs from a 3p
    kanecomputing.com/.../ORSYS_C6713_Compact-2_UG.pdf

    Hope this helps some.

If you have follow up questions on the EP version of c6701, you may also want to check with the Hi Rel team using the following forums
