Your log seems to me that you are trying to mount armv7 filesystem.

Please ensure that you are using armv5 filesystem on SD card partition.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the reply,

I am using the same file system that TI has given in SDK 6.0 version, if that's not the the armv5 filesystem from where i have to download the armv5 file system compatible to AM1808 EVM

  • Hi,

I hope that "SDK6.0" version is not released for AM1808 but AM335x or AM35x or AM37x which will support armv7.

I am using the same file system that TI has given in SDK 6.0 version, if that's not the the armv5 filesystem from where i have to download the armv5 file system compatible to AM1808 EVM

    1) Have you used/mounted the same SDK6.0 filesystem with AM1808 board?\

If yes, then it might be any other reasons involved here.

Could you please provide the link that where did you get download the SDK6.0 ver?

    devtmpfs: mounted

    2) Try to disable "tmpfs"  filesystem support in menuconfig

    3) Try to mount the board through NFS.

  • HI,

1.I have using the same file system on our AM1808 board and its working every thing fine, but the only change was i have upgraded the kernel form 2.6.37 to 3.14.3

    2. I have also tried by disabling the "tmpfs" file system support in menu config but the result is same, i have attached the log below

    3. I dont have option to mount through NFS because we have removed the Ethernet support, the only option to boot was through MMC/SD card

  • Hi,

Please ensure that  you have support for "ARM OABI" in your current filesystem.

    http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.ports.arm.kernel/202133

  • Hi,

I have verified the older Linux kernel which was not build with the support of ARM OABI support in the menuconfig, and that works fine with the rootfs.

I have also enabled the "Use the ARM EABI to compile the kernel"  and "Allow old ABI binaries to run with this kernel (EXPERIMENTAL) " in the 3.14.3 kernel but the the same problem repeating.

I have also tried by disabling the support of "Use the ARM EABI to compile the kernel"  and "Allow old ABI binaries to run with this kernel (EXPERIMENTAL) ", but the same problem repeating.

  • Hi Titus S,

have you found other cause for this problem, if any please update me, i dint get any link to find the solution

  • Hi,

Where did you download the linux kernel source?

    from kernel.org ?

Share me the link of exact kernel source that you downloaded.

Could you please share me your ".config" file to reproduce your problem.?

  • Hi,

Yes i have downloaded it form kernel.org, please find the attached ".config" file and please let me know where i am going wring.2538.config.txt

  • Hi,

I have downloaded latest kernel ver 3.14.4 from "kernel.org" and booted in my OMAPL138 LCDK board.

    7801.linux_latest_log.txt

    4572.config_lcdk_linux_latest.txt

Please use the attached .config file and let me know the results.

I have not used your .config file.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the reply,

I have tried with your .config file buy small changes, Enabled MMC/SD support and disabled DMA Engine as that i need to boot using SD card, but the same problem persists.

I have changed the file system type to EXT3 and tried to boot it shows more error information, by using that you can analyze the error and please let me know.

  • Hi,

Starting init: /sbin/init exists but couldn't execute it (error -14)
Starting init: /bin/sh exists but couldn't execute it (error -14)
Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found.  Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/init.txt for guidance.

    1) Please make sue that you have "init" file in your filesystem (/bin or /sbin or /usr/bin, or /usr/sbin)

    2) If you find exact location of "init" file then try to pass in bootargs like this "init=/bin/init" if init file found at "/bin"

    but it is optional only.

  • Hi,

Could you able to boot the board with latest kernel?

If not, Can you attach your init file located your filesystem under /in/ or /sbin directory

I believe that you are booting armv7 fs.

  • Hi,

I am not able to boot with the latest kernel, and have attached "init.sysinit".

I have tried file command init and its shows message as

    root@ubuntu:/media/root/rootfs/sbin# file init.sysvinit
init.sysvinit: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, ARM, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux  2.6.16, stripped

Its showing Linux version, is that necessary to build init file according to the kernel version? 4061.init.zip

  • Hi,

Its showing Linux version, is that necessary to build init file according to the kernel version?

    Not required.

I got your error when i use yours "init.sysinit" file.

I have attached working sysinit file ,

Test it and update the status.

    4061.init.sysvinit.tar.gz

  • Hi,

Try to use the filesystem from OMAPL138 LCDK's SDK release

  • Hi,

Have you tried with OMAPL138 LCDK's SDK linux filesystem?

Have you created "init" link file for the new "init.sysvinit" file.

    cd /media/rootfs/sbin

    sudo ln -s init.sysvinit  init

  • Hi,

The same thing happened with   OMAPL138 LCDK's SDK linux filesystem and your init file, showing error that its cannot execute., with the boot args as

    setenv bootargs 'console=ttyS2,115200n8 mem=64M ip=off rw root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootwait'

but after specifying the init location in boot args it shows other error

  • Hi,

I'm not able to find exact kernel version 3.14.3 from kernel.org

    Please share me the link.

Mean while try to boot with linux 3.14.4.

  • Hi,

I have downloaded it from the kernel.org but its not there now, i think they have removed.

I have tried with Linux-3.14.4 version but i got the same error as

VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) on device 179:2.
    devtmpfs: mounted
    Freeing unused kernel memory: 152K (c03ff000 - c0425000)

  • Hi Titus,

I found the reason for the "Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x0000000b",

its due to boot arguments, previously it was "mem=64M"  and after replacing it to "mem=32M" kernel panic error was solved.

But now i got a new error and system got hanged,

    omap_rtc da830-rtc: setting system clock to 2000-01-01 00:00:00 UTC (946684800)

if you have any idea on this error please let me know.

  • Hi,

its due to boot arguments, previously it was "mem=64M"  and after replacing it to "mem=32M" kernel panic error was solved.

Have you used the same bootargs for the old as well as new kernel ?

EXT2-fs (mmcblk0p2): error: ext2_free_blocks: bit already cleared for block 206963
    INIT: version 2.86 booting
    INIT: Entering runlevel: 5
INIT: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "S" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

Have you modified the "inittab" file located at "/etc" ?

What is your console port for your board ie ttyS2 or ttyS1?

    Modify accordingly.

    S:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 115200 ttyS2

  • Hi,

I have used mem=64M for the linux kernel 2.6.37 and 2.6.33 both it worked fine, while coming to 3.14.4 and 3.14.3 it dint worked i need to change it as mem=32M

I dint modified the "inittab" file, i have just copied rootfs what the TI has provided for AM1808 and the console port for AM1808 is ttyS2 and i have verified that in "inittab" file also.

  • Hi,

Have you tried any other run levels such as 1,2,3,4,5 ?

Attach your complete bootup log and inittabfile ?

If you want to have shell without any run levels then delete "init" file from "/sbin"

  • Hi,

I have tried deleting the init file and it able to load the shell,

i think the problem is with the binary specified in inittab file entry  i.e "getty"

After the board booted completely with shell, i have tried explicitly the command getty and it  shows segmentation fault as

    / # getty 38400 tty1
    Segmentation fault

The below log was with the init file

  • What problem are you getting ?
Can you please create a new post for your issue ?

Please do make sure that you have given correct Serial console port in inittab.
