Hello,

I would like to ask if there is some simple way to turn the ethernet power off/on (for power save), if yes - how ?

Also We need that while the ethernet is off to enable wakeup in case that ethernet packets are recieved .

I am using OMAP3530 with psp 4.2.0.7, with SMSC911x phy. It seems that smsc911 support WOL (wake on lan).

Is it simply done by using ethtool or do I need to configure the linux to support WOL

I think, it is also involved some hardware part.
Have a look at below wiki.

You have mentioned SMSC PHY suspend and resume functions.
Try to initiate suspend function and pass ethernet packets through n/w and see whether LAN wakeup the processor.
I hope that ethernet IRQ should be wake able.

Thanks for the information!
But What I really want is just to turn off the ethernet - not to get the whole system into suspend.

Is there a way to do that ?

Do you want to disable ethernet in statically or dynamically (on demand) ?
Then you can have a interrupt to do that (by events) .

Hi,

I mean to put the ethernet to sleep on demand - but without suspending the whole system.

Is there some wat to achieve this kind of behaviour ?

by "suspend" do you mean that it can be done automatically when sensing no activity in the lines ? How can it be done ?
