Environment Variables Location

Hi,

In my board u-boot environment variables are stored in on board eMMC but actually my eMMC is not working. So i want to change to another persistent storage NAND Flash or NOR Flash, how can i change the environment variables storage location in u-boot code?.

You have to change ENV settings MMC to NAND in u-boot board config file.
inlcude/configs/<your board.h>

You need to add the following line in config file and undef the MMC ENV setting.
CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_NAND

Rebuild the u-boot and do "saveenv"

Could you point which is your hardware platform?

Hi Titus,

I already tried it, i have commented CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_MMC in omap5_uevm.h and added CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_EEPROM. Then i have tried saveenv, then i am getting

Saving Environment to EEPROM...
MMC init failed

I think only the env_name_spec variable is updated and still it is accessing ENV MMC functions only. Do i need to do some more changes in u-boot?

You asked to save the enviorment variables in NAND right ?

Comment it out "CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_MMC" and use "CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_NAND" then do "saveenv"

Hi Titus,

Thank you. saveenv works fine with NAND. Now as I am using different memory for ENV variables, does it have any impact on Kernel Booing? Do I have to change anywhere in the kernel Code.
