Linux Kernel hanging issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP, TVP5158

Dear Pavel,

Linux Kernel hanging issue fixed. It is working if only enable PHY (SMSC) driver in Menuconfig. The problem because of adding decoder and encoder in Menuconfig. can you mail me how to resolve this issue?

Regards
Balaji

  • Hi Balaji,

    Balaji Govindarajan said:

This should indicate that linux kernel is trying to access this PHY, and when there is no driver for it, it hangs.

Could you provide more details about this decoder and encoder? What is the problem you see when add decoder and encoder in Menuconfig? How you add them in menuconfig? Why you add them in menuconfig?

  • Dear Pavel,

Can you also check following link for UBIFS issue? Still kernel is hanging . I have followed like UDworks

    e2e.ti.com/.../447811

    Kernel Issue:

I have added ADV7180 decoder and ADV7343 encoder in Menuconfig.

What issue you have exactly when add ADV7180 and ADV7343 in menuconfig? Do you have ADV7180 and ADV7343 populated in your custom board?

  • Dear Pavel,

did you check the previous link what i have sent before this post? again i am giving the link for check this issue.

  • Balaji,

Do you have SPI enabled in your linux kernel? Please provide me full console log, not just part of it.

  • Balaji,

Do you need to load your root filesystem from NAND (UBIFS) or from Ethernet (NFS)?

    BR
    Pavel

  • Dear Pavel,

I need the file system from UBIFS.

    Regards
    Balaji
  • Balaji,

If you need UBIFS, you should not set NFS in your boot arguments, like below:

    Kernel command line: console=ttyO2,115200n8 mem=256M rw root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=192.168.0.11:/home/avc-sln/SLN_AVC/filesystem/rootfs,nolock init=/init ip=off ddr_mem=512M

For how to set UBIFS (not NFS) in your boot arguments (kernel command line), refer to the below wiki and e2e threads:

    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../TI81XX_PSP_User_Guide

    e2e.ti.com/.../1331689
    e2e.ti.com/.../1328376

    BR
    Pavel
  • Dear Pavel,

I have tried UBIFS or NFS in boot arguments. Both are getting hanging.

    Regards
    Balaji
  • Balaji,

Why you try NFS when you need UBIFS? Can you provide me full console log when you try with UBIFS?
  • Pavel,

    see the display of UBIFS

  • Balaji,

Can you try to change bootargs from:
    bootargs=console=ttyO2,115200n8 noinitrd ip=off mem=256M rw ubi.mtd=4,2048 rootfstype=ubifs root=ubi0:rootfs init=/init ip=off ddr_mem=512M

    to:
    bootargs=console=ttyO2,115200n8 noinitrd ip=off mem=256M rw ubi.mtd=4,2048 rootfstype=ubifs root=ubi0:rootfs init=/init

    Is there any difference?

  • Also make sure you are using BCH8 ECC when you flash the rootfs in NAND.

  • Also make sure you are using the latest version of the ti816x dvrrdk linux kernel, available at:
    http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=linux-dvr-rdk-dm81xx.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/dvrrdk_kernel_int_branch
