  • Hello Ganesh,

What are your env bootargs in uenv.txt file?
Please check your bootargs for errors.

Which defconfig are you use by compiling your kernel.?

    Best regards,
    Yanko
  • Hi Yanko,

    Bootargs in uenv.txt file:

    mmcargs=part uuid mmc 0:2 uuid; setenv bootargs "console=ttyO0,115200n8 elevator=noop root=PARTUUID=${uuid} rw rootwait earlyprintk fixrtc omapdrm.num_crtc=2 consoleblank=0 cma=64M rootfstype=ext4 snd.slots_reserved=1,1"

I am using omap2plus defconfig for compiling kernel.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Ganesh
  • Hello Ganesh,

You are using the right configuration for GLSDK compiling:

To disable remoteproc messages please comment Remoteproc drivers in .config file.

    home/x0170812/ti-glsdk_dra7xx-evm_7_01_00_03/board-support/linux/.config:
    2730
    2731 #
    2732: # Remoteproc drivers
    2733 #
    2734: CONFIG_REMOTEPROC=y
    2735 # CONFIG_STE_MODEM_RPROC is not set
    2736 CONFIG_WKUP_M3_RPROC=y
    2737: # CONFIG_PRUSS_REMOTEPROC is not set
    2738
    2739 #

For your kernel panic - See following DSS settings:
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Linux_Core_DSS_User's_Guide

Take a look on the thread and try to check the settings in the suggested registers:
    e2e.ti.com/.../305105

    Best regards,
    Yanko

  • Hello Ganesh,

    Please enable the debug option:

    Kernel verbose user space errors
Q: While running user space program xyz I get a segmentation fault, but no more info. How can I get more information from kernel what happend (besides e.g. using gdb)?

A: Two steps necessary for this:

    In kernel config enable
Kernel hacking ---> Verbose user fault messages

    Take a look on a similar issue - http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-arm-kernel/2014-March/241755.html

    Best regards,

    Yanko

  • Hi Yanko,

The above log i am getting during kernel booting only not during user space code execution. I am not getting the log consistently. Sometimes getting root prompt directly, sometimes kernel panic and sometimes some other errors like segmentation fault. What can be the reasons for inconsistent Kernel booting?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Ganesh
  • Hello Ganesh,

A segmentation fault occurs when a program attempts to access a memory location that it is not allowed to access, or attempts to access a memory location in a way that is not allowed (for example, attempting to write to a read-only location, or to overwrite part of the operating system).

I assume that your kernel is damaged. Please try to run on your board other kernel - without your modifications.

    Best regards,
    Yanko
  • Hi Yanko,

I know that segmentation fault occurs when you try to attempt invalid memory access. If my kernel is damaged i should get each time the same error, with the same image i am getting root prompt sometimes and sometimes like this. In EVM each time i am getting root prompt consistently. I am asking you any reasons for this kind of inconsistent booting ?

My main doubt is even though i am using the same GLSDK_DRA7xx_7_02_00_02, i am using Sitara AM5728 processor in my custom board, and in EVM OMAP X5777 processor is present, until i disabled CONFIG_SMP kernel booting fails all the time, and when i disabled CONFIG_SMP kernel booting properly sometimes. Both processors are compatible but still can it cause any problem?

    Thanks & regards,
    Ganesh.

  • Hello Ganesh,

I assume that your issues with GLSDK on AM5728 are caused by incorrectness in hardware. Could you check if you have applied all differences between AM5728 and OMAPx5777 in your GLSDK?

I think that you must add AM572x in your omap2plus_defconfig file. arch/arm/configs/omap2plus_defconfig

    CONFIG_SOC_DRA7XX=y

    CONFIG_SOC_AM572x=y

I suggest you to test SDK software for AM5728 - http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sw/esd/PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-AM57X/latest/index_FDS.html

    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Processor_SDK_Linux_Release_Notes

    Best regards,

    Yanko

  • Hi Yanko,

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I suggest you to test SDK software for AM5728 - software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am trying to download the SDK from the above link, but i have found ti-processor-sdk-linux-am57xx-evm-02.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install.bin for 64-bit device only. Is it available for only 64 bit binary? I am using 32 bit binary.

    Thanks & Regards,

  •  Hi Ganesh Tenka,

We booted the Jacinto 6 board with GLSDK 7_01_00_03.While using ALSA we got the following error.

    omapdss_hdmi5 58040000.encoder: ASoC: can't open interface 58040000.encoder: -1

Kindly suggest us to solve this.
