I'm having troubles adding a soundcard / driver to our Linux image.

We're using an am335x, the ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-01.00.00.00-Linux-x86 SDK, with a configuration based off the singlecore-omap2plus_defconfig configuration.

I've tried following the steps in http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Sitara_Linux_Audio_DAC_Example numerous times, but always get "No soundcards found." during the boot process.

Is there an example that works with the current SDK / kernel?

I eventually want to connect to a TFA9879 via I2C and I2S over McASP0.

Hi Peter,

Could you attach your kernel configuration file (.config) which is hidden file in the main Linux kernel folder. This could be useful for better analyzing the issue.

This is the current state of my .config file.

It doesn't have the stub pcm5102a driver selected but that is the only difference.

Peter,

As I see in your config file that the audio support is built as a module. In this case you must install kernel modules into your filesystem after building them. Do you made this step?
The other way to have audio support is to build audio drivers in the kernel. Could you try this way and share the result.

No difference when selecting to have them built into the kernel or building the modules and copying them to the target system.

I think I've finally figured out that the problem is in the Kconfig files; in sound/davinci/Kconfig SND_SOC_PCM5102A depends on SND_DAVINCI_SOC, which depends on ARCH_DAVINCI, which is not selected in the singlecore-omap2plus_defconfig configuration.
