The linked sources are valid. Could you give more details about steps which you are follow, toolchan and OS version on the host machine?

i am using ubuntu 14 04, took the source from here:

 git clone https://github.com/tomba/omapdrm-tests.git

however, the makefile does not have any compile steps and gives error when PKG_CONFIG_PATH is not defined; so just defined the variable pointing the package path in PLDSKA for 4.4 kernel. there is also a variable called CROSS_COMPILE, if the variable is defined drm_omap libraries are linked, I had just defined CROSS_COMPILE variable, during linking with drm_omap, there is problem stating the path is not found.

i could not find any place to define the cross compiler path, so not sure how this information gets passed.

as per PSDKLA wiki we have this information:

The drmclone, drmextended, and modetest examples demonstrates how to create a CRTC (i.e. FB) and display planes (overlays) on the CRTC. Additionally, drmtest demonstrates similar functionality as the previously mentioned demos, along with dynamic plane updates for 2 CRTCs.

Retrieve the omapdrm-tests source

Run (or example planescale)

>./planescale==Graphics Demos from Command Line ==

does the planescale utility come as BSP? I am unable to locate it in the file system. how do we compile this standalone??    or Just utility is enough can I get some inputs??

Did you try the demos in :
git.ti.com/.../master
Check Tsvetolin Shulev answer how you could build them.
Or you want to build  git.ti.com/.../ demos standalone?

I am able to compile the source for this: https://git.ti.com/glsdk/omapdrmtest/trees/master

but, i am unable to compile this> git clone https://github.com/tomba/omapdrm-tests.git

shulev answer is not complete for 2nd one. I could not find that image in the filesystem of SDK or even how to compile the 2nd one
