DEBUGGING BEAGLE BONE BLACK AND LATEST VERSION OF STARTERWARE FOR IT

Hi,

We have procured latest version of BBB and we intend to use it using starterware.

Can the following cable types be used to debug the program using CCSV6.X or whether JTAG BLACK HAWK 100V2 is mandatory because we do not have the JTAG connector right now for assembly.

Again is there a latest starterware version for beagle bone black? If not then how can the Beagle Bone programs be used to run on it and where the care is required? Any Note on this will be very helpful.

Also kindly provide a starterware guide for BBB.

Regards.

  • Mohit,

You will need the JTAG emulator along with a header soldered to the bottom of the BBB in order to load/debug programs through CCS. Take a look at this blog for some details.

The cable you are referred to is for the serial debug header J1 on the board. This provides a great way to view the BBB's boot messages. Please download the Starterware package from here and apply the Beaglebone Black patch.

    Getting started guide.

  • Hi Lali,

I saw all the files in my already installed starterware and the one's this patch has which needs to be replaced but I find the date time and size of all the files to be same. Why it is so?

If I replace all the files manually will it be ok, if they at all need to be? Again will then all the example progreams of beaglebone in starterware will work error free in beaglebone black.

    Kindly reply. Thanks and Regards.
  • The original StarterWare from TI is really buggy, not updated for a long time and perhaps no longer maintained. So I'd personally would recommend to use the community-driven version from sourceforge.net/.../tree , it contains a lot of bugfixes comparing to the outdated original.
