TPD4E1B06: Max energy?

Part Number: TPD4E1B06

Using this device for something slightly different than ESD protection. Using it to clamp a pulse that is a bit longer than the profiles it is defined for:

E.g. if hit with 150mA for 20ms, is that ok?

The spec does not help answer if this is possible. Max ratings indicate 3A and 45W but for the 8/20us pulse. If that is the max energy (possibly about 0.4mJ), then it would not be able to handle the example above. Is there a spec for how much energy it can absorb? In Joules? How do we get a handle on this?

Thanks..

  • Klaus,

Our ESD devices are not rated for DC cases because that is outside their use case. If you wish to use it like that we cannot guarantee the performance of it.
The best way to have a clue if it will work or not for your pulse is to go off of Section 7.4 in the datasheet where it has all of the package thermals.
