I am now designing a USB Type C UFP system.

It appears that there is a concern of the possibility that a voltage (at least initially) of 20 V might be placed on VBUS by non compliant power supplies USB ports.

I have placed TPD6S300 \ TPD2S300 to protect my system from shorts to VBUS - 20V. However I have other components that are powered directly from VBUS and all of them are only 5V tolerant. What type of protection do I need to protect the rest of my design ?

Hi Shmuel,

Just to clarify, an initial 20V on Vbus from noncompliant power suppliers will not be protected by the TPD6S300 or TPD2S300. The TPD6S300/TPD2S300 will protect the pins adjacent to the Vbus pins on the type-C connector up to 20V. For the TPD6S300, this will be SBU1, SBU2, CC1 and CC2. The TPD2S300 will protect the CC1 and CC2 pins. Many 5V tolerant devices connected to SBU or CC may not be safe because 20V can find its way onto those pins by shorting or debris in the connector which is why the TPD6S300/TPD2S300 is required.

So what type of protection should I implement for those parts of my design that are connected and powered directly from VBUS ???

For VBus, please take a look at the TPD1S514 series of devices or an efuse.
