I'm considering using a TFP401A in an application for an HDMI input (which has no HDCP.) The input may or may not have an audio channel. I don't need this channel decoded, but I do need the video. From one post I read on this forum, it seems audio in the HDMI stream might cause issues, but video alone should work... the post wasn't 100% clear on this though. Would an audio stream prevent proper decoding of the video?

Yes,

The embedded audio will cause sync issues with the TFP device.

The TMDS stream should not contain audio for proper decoding.

Thanks for the info.

I will have to find a source without audio.

Does TI have any DVI deserialisers which will cope with audio being present?

The only other device I'm aware of is an Analog Devices part, but it's considerably more expensive and has more features than I will use, like the audio and HDCP support. The TI part is perfect aside from sync issues. Now I may be able to turn off the audio for my sources but I am not certain. The product will interface with an AV receiver which should in theory not pass audio. However I do not know for certain.

We don't, the TFP devices are the only DVI serdes we have.

Thanks. Looks like it's back to the drawing board on this one. Gotta play around with EDIDs a little and see if I can get a HDMI device to behave like a DVI device (remove audio channel & ignore HDCP.) Then it should work.
