TUSB3210 and UART based peripheral

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410

Hi experts,

OK...number one I am sick and tired of the USB-serial Bridges. In the device-manager they show up in the Ports ( COM & LPT ) section.....this stinks (for my clients). The reason ...is.....because they have to select a COM port and they get lost in space.  (no aliens to help)  Normal USB devices (like cypress...which we also use)...are easy for the "client".

Here is my product and my NEEDS:

I have a rs232-based-peripheral  ( all the z80 firmware is ASM).

I wish to put in a  physical-toggle-switch so the "client" can switch from a hard-wire-rs232_to_PC  to the hardwire-usb_to_PC  "type" of connection.  Inside of my "peripheral-unit" the switch-used-by-the-client would toggle the microprocessor-uart-lines from the rs232 to the usb(tusb3210). Obviously he would need a different PC-app (since the communication link is different).

So I did see in the SLLU043B  users guide: That the unit shows up in the 'device-manager" as a Multi-port serial adapter. I read on line that this was previously used for PCI cards.  I am ok with this...IF....you could guarantee me that the stupid micro-soft folks will support this for the next 30,000 years. (laughs) And then I am curious..do you have example PC- Application-software   used to communicate?

Is there an easier way?

Do you have a more-true USB solution? I guess I mean to say, one that shows up in the "universal serial bus controllers" section of the device manager, that can connect to the uart lines.

CHEERS,

Van

  • Hello Van,

First of all I would like to clarify that the document SLLU043B  makes reference to the TUSB3410 and not to the TUSB3210. Also this document is very old and is based on an old driver version. The newest TUSB3410 driver displays the device instance as a COM port, we don't have a virtual COM port devices that appears on the "universal serial bus controllers"  section.

In order to verify that the TUSB3410 applies for your implementation, please send a complete diagram to have a better view of your project.

BTW, please don't use bad words in your posts, in order to preserve the respect on the forum.

    Best regards,

    Diego.
