TUSB3410 Driver Installation Failures

We are starting to have difficulties installing the driver 6.7.2.0 on both Windows 7 and 8 systems.  Not all systems are having these problems but most are.  We have modified the files for our own VID and PID, and we have signed them so we are not having driver signing problems.

The problem is that in some cases the driver installation appears to succeed normally, but when our product is connected to the PC's USB port Windows churns for awhile but then says that the driver was not installed.  In other cases, some of the files fail to copy during setup.

The only solution is to go into the Device Manager, select the device, right click and Update Driver.  Browsing to the folder that contains the proper files seems to get things to work.

This just started happening a couple of months ago.  Is it related to some recent Windows update?

Is this happening to anyone else?  Is there a fix?

Thanks for any and all help.

Joe

  • Hello Joe,

We never have observed this behavior at our side, could you please provide us your modified files  and  the original installer package that you are using?

You can reproduce it using the EVM? Or is only related to your implementation?

Also please provide us more details about the failing environment, OS, architecture. Updates installed on the system.

    Regards,

    Roberto.

  • Hello Roberto,

How should I provide the requested files?

    Our files are attached.

I don't have many details about the environment as these are reports from the field, our customers. I have been told that it happens on both Windows 7 and 8 computers, both 32 and 64 bit.  That is about all I know.

  • Hello Joseph,

You can attach the modified files directly to this tread, or you can send them to my e-mail.

  • Hello Roberto,

I attached the files to my previous post.

  • Hello Joe,

We have tried using the installer that you send us and it works fine at our end. We have tried on some clean systems (win7 SP1 and win 8).

As I understand from your comments,

    • You install correctly the dirver,
    • then connect the device and its correctly recognized and the driver install correctly,
    • after some time you get the message  that the driver was not installed.

Is this correct? if yes, It look like for some reason your device is getting re-enumerated. Does this happens when you are doing some specific behavior?

    Regards,

    Roberto

  • Hello Roberto,

Thank you for testing our files. Your statement of our problem is not entirely correct.

    • The driver appears to install correctly
    • When the device is connected it does not get recognized. The balloon states that the driver is not installed and the device is not working
    • The device appears in the Device Manager under "Other Devices", not as a Port.
    • By right clicking on the device in Device Manager and selecting "Update Driver", we can browse to the correct driver files and the update happens.
    • Connecting the device after the manual update the device is recognized and functions correctly.

Remember that this is happening in the field with our customers and we don't have much more detail than that. One customer reported that the initial install failed because three files (I don't know which ones) could not be copied.  I don't know how relevant this is as it may have been a permissions problem.

I appreciate you looking into this for us.
