TFP401A EDID to stop Audio from HDMI source

I understand from this forum that TFP40x doesn't support HDMI audio and it works with video only signal. So to use this chip with HDMI sources, is there a way TFP40x board can tell the HDMI source through EDID that it cannot handle audio so that the HDMI source doesn't send audio.

If yes, at which offset or field in EDID will convey this to HDMi source?

Hello MR,

The TFP401A can't say to the HDMI source to send only video signals. TFP401 is only a serializer, the option to send only video should be programmed at the HDMI source.

Hello Aldo, Thanks for the response. TFP401A can't say that to source but is there any option / field in EDID structure that tells the HDMI source that this HDMI sink (receiver) can't handle audio so don't send it?

Hello MR,

I'm afraid there is no field in the EDID with this kind of description, since the TFP401 is not involved on the EDID communication.

Hi MR,

I found something in a extension block of the EDID structure, it's called CEA-861 Extension Block Version 2. There, there are information about the audio capability of the display. I hope this could be useful, please refer to the CEA-861 Standard.
