Hi,

I got the following question from my customer.

How does the TSUB4041 work actually when the each following registers enables/disables?

1. Device Removable Configuration Register rmbl[3:0]

2. Port Used Configuration Register used[3:0]

Hello,
1. The rmbl[] filed will tell the Host controller that one of the downstream ports is or is not removable, if a Port is marked as non-removable then the USB Host will disable the power management for that port, this is required in order to pass the USB compliance tests.

2. The used[] field will completely disable the downstream port.

I'm using TUSB4041 as a USB hub in my application.

Is it possible to modify these registers (rmbl[] & used[]) using a microcontroller lets say MSP430 via I2C port? If so can you tell me how to do it?

Hello,
Not via I2C, the I2C interface in the hub only works to upload contents from an attached EEPROM, however, you can use any SMBUS master to configure the internal registers, please look at the SMBUS section in the datasheet.
