CAT7 Extender for HDMI Cables?

Hi TI Folks,

  Good day to you.

I am looking for CAT7-to-HDMI receiver & HDMI-to-CAT7 repeater solution now. Please advise that do TI have this kind of solution ?

I found there is an EVM which its MPN is DS22EV5110-EVKC in TI website, it's the CAT5 Extender Demo Kit for HDMI Cables.

May I know that do TI have solution for CAT7 Extender for HDMI Cables ? if have, do TI have EVM?

best regards

Jiang WeiJi

  • Hi WeiJi,

The DS22EV5110-EVKC is allows users to connect HDMI to an RJ-45 jack. Since CAT5 and CAT7 is a cable type and not a signaling topology, there should not be any issue connecting a CAT7 cable into the RJ-45 jack. The CAT7 cable is backwards compatible with CAT5 and CAT6 cables, and itsh stricter specifications for cross talk and system noise to allow higher speeds.

Therefore, there does not need to be a different board to use a CAT7 cable. You can still use the DS22EV5110-EVKC.

    Regards,

    Michael
  • Hi Michael,

      Good day to you.

I got your point, Sorry for my abve question is not enough details: The design spec of HDMI is specification 2.0, so that we would like to use CAT7.

May I know that do TI has solution to support CAT7 to HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.0 to CAT7 ?

    Best regards

  • Hi WeiJi,

It is my understanding that you should be able to transmit HDMI on a CAT-7 cable if you wire the differential TMDS pairs to the cable. However, HDMI devices are supported by the High Speed team in Dallas. I will redirect your request there for any additional help they may be able to provide related to HDMI 2.0.

    Thanks,

    Michael
