Does the TPS65982 work with the Spansion S25FL116K Flash device?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982

Hello,

can you please confirm if the TPS65982 can also work with the Spansion S25FL116K Flash device?

What would be the parameters to specifically check with Spansion to ensure that these work together?

Thank you and best regards,
Dirk

  • Hi Dirk,

You could check this app note from Spansion that discusses the change over from a Winbond W25Qxx flash.

    www.spansion.com/.../Migrate_Winbond_W25Q16DV_to_FL116K_AN.pdf

From the datasheets their memory architectures seem to be the same. However, the clock rate on the W25Qxx is slightly faster. It should work but I would cross check to with Spansion if it is a direct replacement.

Another option for you is to order the Spansion flash to replace it on our TPS65982 EVM and verify it.

  • Hi Jacob,

thank you. Sorry to insist, but can TI give a statement if the TPS65982 works with the Spansion S25FL116K Flash device - I guess that we could judge if there is any issue due to the slower clock rate of the Spansion? Otherwise, could we recommend any other Q100-qualified Flash device for the TPS65982?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Dirk

  • Dirk,

If the SPI Flash S25FL116K supports Mode 0 or Mode 1 (Clk & Data transfer polarity), supports speeds faster than the frequency of the SPI_CLK pin spec'd in the TPS65982 datasheet, can be powered from 3.3V, and is erased in sectors of 4kB, then it will be supported by the TPS65982.

The SPI Flash requirements are in the datasheet, but the correlation between our datasheet and the SPI Flash vendors' datasheets may not be obvious because all SPI Flash datasheets are written differently. This is why we always recommend testing and asking the Flash supplier (in this case, Spansion) for a W25Q80 cross-reference Part #. They will be happy to recommend a part and provide samples to your customer.
