Question about TPS65982(EVM).

When the Source side, 5V/12V/20V supply condition.

⇒customer liked to supply 12V to the Sink side, but it can't be achieved.

Is this a restriction matter of Firmware?

Additional information,

EVM User's guide is 12V to 20V (attached below).

But, Firmware User's guide is 20V (attached below).

Which is correct?

Hi Satoshi,

To test 12V sink capability on the EVM firmware you can use Config #2 to act as the source of 12V and any of the other Configs (#0,1,2,3 and 5) to sink that 12V. If, however, you wish to test a DFP with 5V/12V/20V source capability with a UFP that only has a 12V sink capability you can create your own custom binary image using our TPS65982 Configuration Tool (www.ti.com/.../tps65982-config). Do not load the EVM firmware into this tool, please use one of the default configurations and modify accordingly to test your specific need.

The EVM User's Guide refers to the EVM firmware (www.ti.com/.../slvc616) with the configurations outlined in that user's guide. The Firmware User's Guide refers to a separate firmware for the TPS65982 IC (www.ti.com/.../slvc619).

I recognize that,
・EVM firmware can use 12V_sink, but 5V/12V/20V_source can't use.
・If 5V/12V/20V_souece and 12V_sink capability , we necessary to configure the Configuration Tool.

About EVM firmware config #0, why 20V@5A is red?
Can't 20V_source use with 5V/12V_source?

Hi Satoshi,

The only reason 20V@5A is red is to signify that it requires a special cable (e-marked cable or captive cable). For any power profile greater than 3A, an e-marked or captive cable is needed to inform the PD Controller that it, the cable, is capable of handling more than 3A of current.
