TPL7407L current ability

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPL7407L

The maximum continus current for each channel of TPL7407L is 600mA, what about the maximum pulse current for each channel?

Whether it can endure 750mA/20ms pulse current? It have been mentioned that the output channels can be  tied together to sink more current.

What about the current distribution for each channel? For example, if I tied 2 channel together for 1000mA application, what about the current

distribution in each channel.

  • Hello East,

Figures 5-8 shows the amount of current a given channel can take under different duty cycle conditions. The maximum recommended output current is 500mA, and the main consideration to take when having this much current is the thermal properties.

Additionally, when tying multiple channels together to get 1A, you may need to tie more than 2 together depending on the duty cycle. Again please refer to Figures 5-8 in the TPL7407L datasheet.

  • Michael,
Do you means that even one single 20ms pulse current cannot excess 500mA.
  • Hello East,

Are you concerned about kickback? Is this driving a motor?

The device can manage some kickback voltages, but exactly to what level and time we have not characterized, so I can't guarantee that it would be able to manage a 20ms pulse at 750mA.

Certainly 2 channels would be able to manage this if they were tied together if you had available channels to use.

    Best,
    Michael
