TCA9517 in series

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9517, PCA9515A

The datasheet mentions multiple TCA9517s can be connected in series

as long as the A side is connected to the B side.

I guess that TCA9517 cannot be connected A-side to A-side in series.

What is the reason?

Thanks in advance.

  • Takishin,

Page 2 of the datasheet says, "This type of design on the B side prevents it from being used in series with the PCA9515A and another TCA9517 (B side). This is because these devices do not recognize buffered low signals as a valid low and do not propagate it as a buffered low again."

An A-side to A-side connection is allowed, but doing so would prevent you from connect more than 2 in series.

This is why A-side to B-side connections are shown in Figure 8 on the datasheet.

  • Thank you for your answer.
