TCA8424 Set_Power command support

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA8424

Hi,

I tried to send Set_Power OFF command to TCA8424 follow HID Over I2C Protocol V1.00 but the power consumption of TCA8424 didn't reduce. Will TCA8424 enter suspend after receiving Set_Power OFF command?

BR,

Jerry

    Thanks

  • How did you acquire TCA8424 samples? Through the TI Store or directly from a TI Sales team member?

Have you also ordered/received the TCA8424EVM?

If so, have you already performed OTP programming?

If not, are you aware that you will need to program the OTP of each device?

Just trying to understand your level of support with this device to date, and your understanding of its implementation.

  • Hi,

We purchased TCA8424EVM from Digikey and have programmed OTP. Will TCA8424 enter low power mode or just turn off LED after receiving Set_Power OFF command? We observed the current doesn't change at Set_Power ON and OFF state.

  • "Set_Power" OFF turns OFF the LEDs and remembers their state.
"Set_Power" ON turns ON the LEDs in the previously recorded state.

So, the overall system's current consumption will be reduced, but the current consumed by the TCA8424 will not be reduced. In the state, key-scan must continue, so the only option for saving power is by turning off the LEDs when the keyboard is in "sleep mode", or "low power mode", or whatever you may want to call it.
