Need information on PCA9306-Q1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCA9306-Q1, TCA9617B, TCA4311A

Hi,

In our design I2C translation from 3.3V to 5V is required. The device should have minimum sleep / standby  current.

In PCA9306-Q1 datasheet this parameter is not mentioned.  Please help us on this.

And one more question is - how much length the I2C bus on 5V side can be used with out a repeater? In our design I2C has to run for 35 to 40 cm distance outside PCB (to LED modulePCB).

Regards,

Pranavasri

  • Hi Pranavasri,
In your "standby/sleep" condition is the VCCA and VCCB powered up or are they powered down?

The length of the I2C bus really depends on the capacitance that is "hanging" of the line. The I2C bus spec limit is 400 pF, so if you meeting that spec then you should be fine. If not, I would recommend using a repeater such as TCA4311A or TCA9617B.

    Thanks,
    Rajan
  • Hi Rajan,

If the enable pin is not activated, that time what would be the sleep current in PCA9306-Q1? we are not looking to power down either VCCA and VCCB at this moment.

due to PCB size limitations, we are looking to use I2C translator and repeater in a single package with low sleep current. (100 uA or less). Please suggest on this.

    Regards,

    Pranavasri

  • Pranavasri,

If the enable pin is not activated the leakage current will be in microamps. It will be approximately the sum of pin leakage currents (< 50 uA).

Do you need a Q1 device for automotive application? TCA9617B provides both buffering and voltage translation. But it is not a Q1 version.

    Thanks,

    Rajan
