TCA9534A power consumption

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9534A

Hi,

Customer of mine is interested to use TCA9534A to expend more IO ports for processor

Could you advice the power consumption of this IC when all ports are functioning? (I could not find the power consumption in datasheet)

Thanks!

  • Hello,

This question is difficult to answer accurately due to the nature of the device. When a port is functioning, do you mean that it is at maximum loading capacity?

The datasheet specs quiescent current (ICC) through ground and VCC. If you assume that each of the 8 ports is at high level at maximum loading (10 mA), you will hit 8 x 10 = 80 mA through the VCC. Depending on your voltage (if you assume max of 5.5), you could see 0.08 * 5.5 = 0.44W.

Of course, if you don't load the pins at maximum load, or have a lower voltage, you will see a different dissipation figure.
