TXB0104 OE voltage range

Hello,

It appears that the TXB0104's OE pin is 5V tolerant. Is it safe to drive it at 5V? The OE pin doesn't seem to have absolute maximum ratings listed in the datasheet. I'm doing level translation for SPI between a 5V master and a 3.3V slave, and I need to drive the OE pin from the 5V side.

Hi Andrew,

The TXB0104 OE pin can be drove by 5V. Its high level input range is from 0.65Vcca to 5.5.(the input range can be found on page 4: Recommended operating condition) .

Dear Lawrence,

Let me double-check about a voltage that OE pin can be drove because there is no response for similar post below.

My question is simple. Can I drive OE pin with VCCB when I use TXB0104 as VCCA=2.5V and VCCB=3.3V without any damage?

Yes. OE pin logic high voltage range is from VCCA*0.65 to 5.5V. Thus OE can connent to VCCB when VCCA=2.5V and VCCB=3.3V

You say OE can be connected to VCCB when VCCA=2.5 and VCCB=3.3

VCCA is always less than or equal to VCCB. So, can you always connect OE to VCCB?

We connected OE to VCCB by mistake but it seems to work. We were going to correct next board change. All the better if we can leave alone.

OE can be supplied with any voltage within the specs.

Since OE is referecned to Vcca, can you make sure that Vcca is up and stable before Vccb is powered?

VCCA and VCCB are generated by two DC-DC converters that are enabled at the same time. VCCA is 3.3V so should be up before VCCB which is 5V.

It sounds like the data sheet over states the importance of connecting OE to VCCA???

Perfect!
When the datasheet states that OE is supplied by(referenced to) VccA, it just implies that the high/ low thresholds of the control input are set according to VccA.
This is a good point that you bring up Ken, we should add this explanation to the application section of TXB and TXS family.
