SN74AVC16T245 Output Drive Strength

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74AVC16T245

Hello,

I am running a SN74AVC16T245 device to shift a 3.3V interface down to 2.5V.

In the datasheet it states that the "recommended operating condition" for 2.3 to 2.7 V is 9mA. Is that telling me that 9mA is the drive strength?

I simply want to get an idea of that the max current output of the device will be in this situation.

Thanks!

-Andrew

  • If you look at the Voh and Vol specifications, they are listed at the recommended operating current. So for 2.3 to 2.7V, 9ma would be the maximum drive level where the output is guaranteed to meet the minimum Voh / maximum Vol per the spec. This would be worst case rather than typical, and CMOS drivers generally can put out a lot more current if you're willing to allow a little more voltage drop. In the absence of a Ios (output short circuit current) specification, your best bet is to use the IBIS models to see how the outputs behave under other conditions.
  • Right, I can see the recommended spec but getting an answer for what the typical output current rather than the worst case is what I am looking for.
I can run a sim with the IBIS model to take a look at that but I was hoping I could just get a range for the typical values.

    Thanks,
