SN74LVC8T245 supported data rate at low Vcc

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC8T245, SN74AVC8T245, SN74LVC1G17

Hi,

I'm working on this level shifter implementaion where I need translate a 100MHz signal from 3.3V to 1.7V. The datasheet does not specify anything about acheivable data rate for translation to low voltages, though the general product description says 100MHz as a  supported throughput. Could anyone confirm this?

Thanks,

-Sanat

  • Hello Sanat,

I need to look through the characterization data and do some calculations to figure out an approximate max data rate for your application.  Note that this will change with capacitive loading, resistive loading, across temp, and across process variation.

  • Hello Sanat,
After looking at the data it was pretty clear to me the SN74LVC8T245 wouldn't support your data rates. The LVC parts were designed for higher voltage applications, but as long as your using <3.6V then the AVC series is a much better choice. I would suggest using the SN74AVC8T245 for your application. 1.7V is an unusual supply, can I ask what your application is? Do you what other features are you looking for?

  • Hello Francis,

Thanks for the update and suggestions. My application needs a capability from 1.7V to 5.8V as I'm trying to build a general purpose serial interface where I'm expecting the input digital levels in this voltage range but have to fix the output level to 3.3V. I was thinking about an alternate option as well using a schmitt trigger based buffer for this. I could find a part - SN74LVC1G17 that may work, but I could not find any data to support max frequency capability for this. Could you confirm this or maybe have any other suggestion?

  • Hi Sanat ,

The nominal frequency according to the product folder is 150Mhz for SN74LVC1G17 . There is usually no data explicitly for devices but we take this reference from similar clocked devices in the same family using the process .
