Scenario: VCC remains applied to all transceivers.

R-OUT1,2,3 (ie,not R-OUT1b) from 2 (or multiple) transceivers connected together when FORCEOFF = L  on all the transceivers except the 1 active transceiver.

Can D-OUTS from 2 (or multiple) transceivers be connected together when FORCEOFF = L  on all the transceivers except the 1 active transceiver.

Is the D-OUT = Z capable of withstanding an impressed RS-232 voltage ?

  • Charlie,

Normal ROUT pins can be connected together when ~FORCEOFF is low (or ~EN is high if applicable to device) because the ROUT pins will be high impedance output.

DOUT pins can be connected together when ~FORCEOFF is low because the DOUT pins will be high impedance output (over a +/-13.2V range).
