SN65C3232E / V+, V-

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65C3232E, SN65C3238

Hello Team,

I'm Hidetoshi Matsunami.

I have 2 questions about SN65C3232E.

(1)

I'd like to know what is the output voltage for the V+ and V- of SN65C3232E.

I think the output voltage for the V+ is 5.5V and V- is -5.4V.

Is my understanding correct?

(2)

Can the V+ of SN65C3232E be used as external supply voltage?

Also could you tell me the sink/source current rating of V+ terminal if so?

Best Regards,

Hidetoshi Matsunami

  • Hidetoshi-san,

    1) Yes that is the typical voltage. The voltage self regulates but may vary with driver (DOUT) load.

    2) I don't recommend using the V+ and V- to run external circuitry. If you want to try it anyway, keep the load light and avoid having a load from V+ to V- that might cause V- to become positive at start up.

You may however use SN65C3238 instead. It has 5 drivers, two can be used for RS232 and the other three drivers could drive on board circuitry. Recommend maximum load per driver is 5.1V/3k = 1.7mA

  • Hello Ron,

I'm sorry for the late reply.

    I appreciate your support.
