hello everyone

I am designing PCB with Ethernet GMII interface. Can anyone tell me which power supply mode is better & why ? 2 supplies mode or 3 supplies mode ?

Hello Malwinder,

The 3-supply mode has lower operating power as compared to the 2-supply mode but this will need a separate 1.8V rail to be supplied to the PHY. Selecting the right supply mode depends on the application. If there is a 1.8V rail available on the system and lower power is desired then I would say 3-supply mode is better. You can also refer to section 10 in the datasheet for Power Supply Recommendation when creating the PCB design.
