DP83848I: DP83848I

Part Number: DP83848I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83630

Dear Sir, please, answer

DP83848 and DP83630 have different cases. But functionally and programmatically they are completely interchangeable? We use DP83630 now. Can I replace it to DP83848 without changing the software? Is it possible to compile a table of correspondence of the pins of these chips?

TIA

Sincerely

Vladimir Naumenkov

  • Hello Vladimir,

DP83630 has more functionality than the DP83848 so they are not exactly the same. However, if you are moving from DP83848 to DP83630 then all the functionality from the DP83848 will be included in DP83630.
Reusing software depends on what functionality was being previously used. The IEEE registers on the 630 are same as 848, so if your previous software only accessed those registers then you can use it for the DP83630. Please note that the PHY identifier registers will have different values. If your software is using those registers to identify the PHY, then that will have to be updated in your software.
The pinout and the package is different like you mention in your post above. If you just need the differences then the datasheet would be the best source of reference. If you have follow-up questions about the differences then we can definitely help to answer them.
