DP83867IR: Compliance test(A and B peak voltage) failed with the customer's own board

Expert 8760 points
Part Number: DP83867IR
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83867E

Hi team,

My customer made 1000BASE-T compliance test with his own board which is equipped with DP83867IR.
As a result, the A and B peak voltage test failed.

The customer searched DP83867 compliance test fail inquiries in E2E and he found below two inquiries.
The customer thinks it seems that responses are done individually and the answer is not disclosed
in E2E thread.

The customer believes that the answers will be hints for his test failures.
So the customer wants to know these answers.

Can you provide the answers to the customer?
Or should  the customer post individually as a new inquiry?
Please let me know.

E2E thread title:
 ・[DP83867IR] compliance test is failed
・DP83867E: Fail the A and B peak voltage test of 1000m Ethernet compliance test

Best regards,
Fumio Nakano

  • Hello Fumio,

Is this for the 64pin QFP device or 48pin QFN device?

Can you check if customer is using the procedure and register setting mentioned in the compliance testing app note? The compliance testing app note is here : www.ti.com/.../snla239a.pdf

  • Hello Aniruddha-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

The customer gave me answers to your questions and gave us questions as below.
And the customer wants to interact directly with you in this thread after receiving
below answer, so please respond and so on.

    -- The customer's reply --

Is this for the 64pin QFP device or 48pin QFN device?

     -> We use 48pin QFN device. DP83867IRRGZ.

Can you check if customer is using the procedure and register setting  mentioned in the
compliance testing app note? The  compliance testing  app note is here :
     www.ti.com/.../snla239a.pdf

-> I have already referred to that application note snla239a.pdf.
As shown in Appendix B, set the PHY register to 1000 Base Test Mode 1 and
I checked the waveform like Appendix C Figure 6 with an oscilloscope.

In that waveform, Peak voltage of Point A is 536.9mV and Point B is 536.1mV.
I think this is the same as the situation in the below question,

[DP83867E: Fail the A and B peak voltage test of 1000m Ethernet compliance test]
Peak volt Point A=545.5mv and Peak volt point B=547.6mv, the pass/fail criteria
of the TDS7104 oscilloscope is it should be between 670mv and 820mv.
From section 2.2.2 of the test spec SNLA239A, the description of the pass Condition
has not include the range of the Peak volt point A/B. Do you know why this criteria
is different from the Tektronix Ethernet compliance test software? Any special setup
to pass the 1000M peak volts of A and B before?

So, I would like to know Aniruddha-san's answer to the above question.

    Thank you.

  • Hello Nakano-san, Aniruddha-san,

The above problem was solved  by setting Reg 0x01d5.

There is  no discription about Reg 0x01d5 in the datasheet or app notes.

Does this register value determine the amplitude of the output?

    Best regards,

    Hideaki Fujiwara

  • Hi Fujiwara-san,

Register 0x01d5 corrects the output of test mode 1. Register 0x1d5 setting is only used during compliance testing and does not change the amplitude of the output.

    Best Regards,
  • Hi Rodrigues-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understood that function of Reg 0x01d5.

    Best regards,

    HIdeaki Fujiwara
