DS100BR111: Question about SMBUS registers for SATA Gen2 Re-driver application

Part Number: DS100BR111

Hello, if enabled what do bits 7:6 of SMBUS register 0x04 (eSATA mode) do as far as the functionality of the DS100BR111?

What are the recommended settings (excluding VOD, EQ...etc) for a SATA Gen2 application? Section 9.1.2 in the data sheets notes register 0x28 must be set to 0x4C for SATA/SAS. Are there any other bits that also need to be set for a SATA application?

  • Hi Jeremy,

    Bits 7:6 of SMBus Register 0x04 enable eSATA mode.  This mode will put the DS100BR111 into a low power state after the signal detect function does not see a valid input signal for 100uS.

    Here is a set of SMBus registers to adjust for a SATA/SAS application.

    0x06 = 18'h     /*Enables SMBus access

    0x0F = 00'h -> 07'h     /* Typical CTLE settings, depends on amount of attenuation in system

    0x11 = 00'h -> 02'h     /* Typical DEM settings, depends on amount of attenuation in system

    0x16 = 00'h -> 07'h     /* Typical CTLE settings, depends on amount of attenuation in system

    0x18 = 00'h -> 02'h     /* Typical DEM settings, depends on amount of attenuation in system

    0x23 = 0C'h     /* Typical VOD setting of 1000mV for CH0

    0x2D = AD'h    /* Typical VOD setting of 1000mV for CH1

    Regards,

    Lee
