DS100KR401: Asking for the DS100KR401 applciation question

Part Number: DS100KR401
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DPS-DONGLE-EVM

Hi team,
Customer is designing the DS100KR401 application which used as the 10G Retimer.
The DS100KR401 is configured as SMBus Slave Mode.

1. Is it necessary to configure or initialize the DS100KR401 before use? If yes, how do we configure or initialize it?
2. Can you tell us how to check whether the DS100KR401 is working or not?

Thanks,
SHH

  • Hi SHH,

Please note that the DS100KR401 is a redriver/repeater, not a retimer because it does not contain a CDR block within the device.

    1. Yes, it will likely be possible you need to configure the DS100KR401 before use. This is because the default EQ for the DS100KR401 is 0x2F, which is a very large boost value. In addition, the DEM will be set to -3.5 dB by default. You can program the DS100KR401 with any I2C or SMBus programming tool. If you have access to a DPS-DONGLE-EVM, you can use the SigCon Architect GUI to program the device. In Slave Mode, write Reg 0x06 = 0x18 to enable SMBus register access. Afterwards, program the EQ Boost, De-emphasis, and VOD settings for each channel as desired.

    2. To verify DS100KR401 functionality, try sending 10GbE traffic through the DS100KR401. If the endpoints on either side of the DS100KR401 can recognize one another and operate at speed (10 GbE) without bit errors, then the DS100KR401 is behaving as expected.

    Thanks,

    Michael
